Ballito Surf Spots:

Sunrise: Excellent

This is Ballito's world class wave. Works best with a clean easterly swell and light offshore winds. A must see if you are in KZN at all although you may need to ask the locals where to find it.

Surfers: Good
This wave will be working best with a SW swell and NW winds. It's a hollow, right hand wave that's sure to provide some fun. Works best anywhere between 2-5'.

Other spots:
Down the beach from surfers are a number of spots with a number of names, going (in order) from Next Door to Giants Bum (a spot in front of a section of rocks that shoots water through a hole in the reef at high tide - figure it out), Backdoor and others. It's worth checking these out if the waves look good but keep an eye on the rips.

Further south of Surfers is Bathers (a hollow spot at times - surfers are not always allowed to surf here due to the bathing area, check with the lifeguards on duty and bring bribery material). Beyond that reef lies a spot called Bog, just in front of La Montagne hotel. This spot can get insane and is well worth a look when Surfers gets crowded. When the swell hits 6ft, it breaks off the outer reef which can be pretty sick.

Other spots include Clarke Bay (don't bother) and Salmon Bay.

Ballito Accommodation:

Monkey Bay Backpackers

Funky and trendy backpackers.

Locals tip - Ballito generally sucks on a north-easter wind, with choppy waves and blue-bottles. Salmon Bay however, works best with a light north-easter. If it starts getting choppy wherever you're surfing, you've probably got about an hour left of good surf at Salmon.
