Cape Town & Surrounding Surf Spots:

Llandudno: Good/Excellent
If you in Cape Town then it's a good option to go there. Can get really good with some sick barrels, but with that comes the crowds and, as always, a few unfriendly locals. Best times are spring (Sept- Nov) and autumn (Mar- May). If you get it at the right time, it'll be a great wave but can be a bit inconsistent. The best peak to surf is the Gat. If you see it on a big day, you'll know where it is.

Dungeons: Excellent (depending on the size of your nads)
Home to big wave surfing in SA and even on the international circuit now. Starts breaking at about 10-11'. Enough said for the beginners out there.

Long beach: Good
Found in the Kommetjie area. Quite a popular spot. Waves run for about 30 metres. Wave works best with a South Westerly wind. Maybe a good option to stop off here for a wave. Good wave

Muizenberg: Average
Home to the learn-to-surf schools and with that comes the beginners. A fun wave if you just starting to surf. It's offshore when the wind is blowing NW. It's one of the only places in SA that can be completely rubbish and still have about 200 surfers out. Still, if you're learning and have a mini-mal or longboard, this is the place to start. Having said that, when there's absolutely no wind, it can get pretty good.

Milnerton: Average/Good
Just north of Cape Town. Closes out quite often especially when the NW is blowing. When the off shore(SE) is blowing you can get a really enjoyable wave. Not a steep drop in so beginners will enjoy it here and intermediates will enjoy trying out some new moves.

Table View: Average/Good
Similar to Muizenberg in that it is a wide open beach and can't handle too much wind. It gets relatively crowded but nothing too serious. There are often lots of peaks, so waves for everyone. It is a fun ride when its working.

Big Bay:
Average
Situated in the Blouberg area. Just past table view(above). Home to kite surfing. Very inconsistent and often closes out. Gets packed but thinking about it, we don't really know why.

Deerde Steen: Good
A really good wave, about 20 minutes north of Cape Town on the way to Melkbos. It is quite exposed so can't handle much wind. It is quite a popular spot and is often full with up and coming surfers. A fun wave sums it up.

Eerste Steen: Good
Same area as Deerde Steen. Can get pretty hollow with lots of peaks that drop off at the shoulder.

Sea Point: Good
A point break and a left hander. Quite a hairy wave, especially the take off. Needs either a really big swell, or a westerly swell to go off properly. Gets really good.
